Museum

A place where memory takes shape and the past meets the present.

The Museum of the Sanctuary of La Verna is housed within spacious 15th-century halls and rooms that recount the life of the ancient friary, offering visitors a journey rich in history, art, and spirituality.

The museum preserves precious 15th-century illuminated hymnals, refined examples of monastic art, along with liturgical furnishings, vestments, and paintings of great historical value. Among the most significant works are a polychrome wooden crucifix and a ceramic bust, both attributed to Andrea della Robbia, master of Renaissance glazed terracotta.

The museum tour continues with a room dedicated to the friary’s ancient pharmacy and apothecary laboratory, evidence of the friars’ long-standing herbalist tradition. The visit concludes in the evocative Common Fire, the museum’s most characteristic room: a place steeped in history and a symbol of the communal life of the friars of La Verna.

A visit to the Museum of the Sanctuary of La Verna is a unique opportunity to discover centuries of sacred art, Franciscan culture, and monastic traditions in one of Tuscany’s most spiritual and fascinating locations.
